In this session we welcome Ross Garland, co-author of the new book - Project, Programme and Portfolio Governance (P3G) – which looks at how to establish an effective governance framework for a project, programme or entire portfolio. A perfect text for anyone currently working in or managing a PMO. P3G is the framework an organisation establishes to enable effective investment decision making and the PMO has a great role to play in that.
An exclusive House of PMO member event which takes place bi-monthly.
This hour session gives you the opportunity to take part in a session which is 100% focused on PMO careers.
You have the option to add a question of your own or just join in and take part in the career-related discussion.
The first part of this month's session is dedicated to one aspect of PMO careers, decided on by members - the second part, to answering member questions.
This month's session is dedicated to one PMO practitioner's career. We take a look at what makes a good career for a PMO practitioner, the highs and lows and the different paths it takes us down.
We all have something to share from our own personal experiences and we definitely take away something when we hear what has worked for others.
This session is open to anyone interested in career management - at any level of PMO experience - and within any role.
Registration required - free to paid members
PMOs the world over are now supporting both Agile and traditional projects - with that has come many opportunities for the PMO to provide new or different services. There has certainly been many challenges and now we want to clearly understand what those challenges are and how together we can discover what some of the solutions can be.
The #PMOwfh is a monthly magazine show - if you're working at home and looking for a quick catch up on all things PMO - with sessions like 10 in 10 and ridiculous jingles, come and join us.
Why is benefits management so hard? We want to understand exactly what the challenge is for the PMO and benefits management and work together to uncover different ways to overcome the problems.
Resource management is one of those areas which can feel so vast and complex, at House of PMO we looked at this subject a few years back with an Inside PMO Report. Now we want to dig deeper into what it is about resource management that continues to challenge PMOs so much. This session will help us to pinpoint and then start working together to find the right kind of solutions.
Join us for a new PMO Book Club where this month we will be featuring the new book - Project, Programme and Portfolio Governance.
In our book clubs we explore different themes of the book and get into conversations and debates, digging deeper into the content and thinking about how the book affects our day-to-day work in PMO.
Like all our Book Club sessions, you don't need to have read the book to gain lots of great insights from this session.
Low maturity can mean a couple of different things - a PMO in a low maturity project management organisation or a PMO which has low maturity levels and its struggling to support the organisation well. We will look at both aspects and really try to drill down into what the challenges are. When we can fully understand what the problem is, together we can work on finding the best solutions.
The brilliant thing about a career in PMO is that there is opportunity, literally hundreds of different opportunities – and we’re not just talking about moving on and out to a Project or Programme Manager role.
We can choose to work in different types of PMOs, work at different levels of responsibility and authority, choose to become the go-to-person in a certain area. We can choose to lead innovation in our PMOs; or make things better for our senior executives or create a great team of PMO practitioners who are knocking it out of the park. Great things can happen in a PMO career.
To take advantage of opportunities it takes a combination of things – such as experience, skills, behaviours, attitude, luck and much more. Sometimes our organisation helps us to be in a position to take up opportunities, sometimes it comes from our own drive and determination. When you take ownership for your own career, that’s when doors start to open.
In this interactive session we’ll be covering different areas of “taking ownership” – what that really means, what does it look like, how you can take ownership.
We’ll also look closer at the “PMO career” and uncover lots of different avenues that should spark thoughts about your own career to date and where you want to be next.
Full of practical tips and insights plus a chance to hear how others are taking ownership of their PMO career – it’s a session you wouldn’t want to miss if you love what you do and want to do more of it.
