Setting up, running and closing down a PMO - those are the main themes in Bill Dow's popular and practical book - The PMO Lifecycle.
We're delighted to have Bill join us in this PMO Book Club session and he will be specifically focusing on the running a PMO part. He'll be focusing on areas such as executive level reporting; managing PMO resources and looking at the day-to-day operations in running a PMO.
It's not often we focus on the actual day-to-day operations of a PMO - setting up a PMO seems to be the one that is often in the spotlight - so it'll be good to talk about dashboards and scorecards; think about weekly checklists, and metrics and performance.
This session forms part of our PMO Book Club - you can purchase the book, join this session with the author and then join us for the PMO Book Club on the 29th September to discuss it.

A clear strategy can enable PMOs to play an essential role in achieving organizational goals towards corporate excellence and sustainability. The higher the expectations, the higher the complexity…as commitment by both the organization and individuals is required since there is no, one size fits all. A strong Transformation PMO, blended with portfolio management is a catalyst for the creation of value & furthering strategic goals, building performance-sustaining capabilities that empower an organization
In this short lunchtime session, we’ll be discussing the top 5 TLAs you are likely to come across when working within PMOs and learning a little more about them. If you wish to nominate one for the top 5, do let us know!
We're joined by Stuart Easton who will kick off with a project prioritisation mini-masterclass - what is it all about? What are the common pitfalls and challenges that organisations and PMOs struggle with?
Stuart will delve into the high-performing organisations to see what it is they're doing and what lessons can be learnt before leaving us with some of those quick wins.
Does your PMO want to offer a better service around risk management? Get better at risk analysis; challenging assumptions; being aligned at project, programme and portfolio levels; supporting strategic risk identification. The list goes on.
In this session we’re joined by risk management expert John Greenwood. John has worked in this field for the last decade and a half, following a career delivering projects and programmes, and rescuing business from the consequences of unmanaged risks.
Risk management is becoming ever more important in the preparation, planning, and delivery of programs and projects, as organisations demand greater certainty (or an understanding of the uncertainty) of delivery times and costs.
Tools and techniques used for risk management have progressed over the last decade or so, moving the practice of risk management on from the probability/impact diagrams of old, with the availability of cheap computing power capable of performing sophisticated analyses of delivery plans.
John will outline the three main objectives of risk management, and provide an overview of how the risk management processes support delivery of these objectives, and discuss their integration with the wider project controls and PMO disciplines.
In this session we take a look at carrying out a PMO self-assessment. Using the PMO Competency Framework we share how you can prepare, reflect, complete it and use it in your PMO career development.
In this session we take a look at the roles of PMO Analysts and reveal the top five things that really help people in these roles do a great job. Join us for this free session!
Throughout the year, the Book Club has brought you books and authors we think you might find interesting and useful in your PMO role. In November, we're asking you to open up your libraries to share with fellow PMOers which books you've loved, liked or loathed. We're doing it on the 28th November for everybody to have plenty of time to add any recommendations to their Christmas list.
If you're interested in talking for 10 minutes (or 2 minutes) on any book, get in touch!
In this session, we take a look at carrying out a PMO self-assessment and what you need to get started. Taking the PMO Competency Framework, we share how you can prepare, reflect, complete it and use it in your PMO career development.
We will be using the online self-assessment tool as well - so that you can see how it works and how useful it can be.
This session is aimed at all PMO practitioners regardless of level - all you need to have is a passion for developing yourself in PMO!
