The Inside PMO Report on PMO Leadership was released during 2022 and at the project management expo show in London we shared the insights to an audience of project management practitioners.
We also had an exhibition stand and asked visitors to the stand to think about their own experiences of leaders - both good and bad.
You can take a look at the presentation we did - and see what others thought about leaders too.

Last week was Project Challenge again and we were there (with a new red sofa!) to chat with PMO practitioners on the stand.
We had a great mix of different types of PMO practitioners and lots of different organisations too. So many had not come across us before so if you're one of those people reading this now, welcome!
As ever we had a couple of questions up on the wall to see what people were thinking.
First question:
What Should You Automate in Your PMO?

We recorded a few sessions at Project Challenge this year and we headed over to PMO Flashmob regular Sunchana Johnston as she gave a presentation on:
Good Project Planners Are Like Gold Dust
Here's an overview of the session:
Full of humour, honest advice and empathy, Sunchana describes her own journey from an unhappy employee to a successful freelance planning consultant. Based on first-hand experiences post voluntary redundancy and a log term aspiration to become gold dust in project management terms, this is a story of transformation and discovery of what skills are important, of acquiring technical skillsets and finding the real confidence, of winning the first contract, of inspiring others and of making contracting in planning & control sustainable. Sunchana confidently gives practical advice on how to start a business, exploring the benefits of employing good project planners, the obstacles and the exciting possibilities of joining the wonderful world of freelancing in planning, with the freedom, self-direction and flexibility that this offers.
Delegate take away from this session:
A clear understanding of what makes a good project planner
Guidance, motivation and confidence to become one
Benefits of employing project planners

It was Project Challenge again this week - the Project Management Expo in London and once again we met new PMO professionals who had yet to experience the delights of PMO Flashmob!
Each time we do the show we always think it’s a good idea to capture some of the thoughts of the visitors - for one, it helps us capture potential future topics for PMO Flashmob events - and it also helps us do a quick temperature check on common challenge areas for people working in PMO (after all the show is called Project Challenge!). It’s not scientific but do always ask the question about what challenges people are facing and over the last few years of doing this, we certainly see some trends.
Current PMO Challenges
We asked the question, what’s your biggest PMO challenge?

A few weeks ago we were at Project Challenge and we did a presentation to go alongside the new Inside PMO Report which we launched at the show too.
For those of you not familar with the Inside PMO Reports we do one a year on a topic area we know you're talking about or getting to grips with. We invite PMO Managers, who are doing a good job working on these topic areas, treat them to lunch then interrogate them. Well not quite, but we do ask loads of questions to find out how they dealt with certain things or the approach they might have taken.
We record that and after a few months of weeping whilst pulling it together in readable form, we create the report and share it with you.

Last week was Project Challenge. We love doing this show for a number of reasons - mainly it's about meeting PMO practitioners and finding out what they're up to and telling them about what we're doing at PMO Flashmob.
At this Autumn's show we were able to share details about a new booklet that Eileen Roden has been working on as part of a new sister company to PMO Flashmob. It's called PMO Learning and it will be offering PMO courses and training. More about that later.
The new booklet has been created in conjunction with the Association for International PMOs (AIPMO) and leading experts in the field.
The session we ran at Project Challenge was all about the PMO Principles. Here's the overview:
