Portfolio Management – A Simple Process?

Portfolio management - a simple process? Perhaps you're shaking your head at that but what if we said that intrinsically those portfolio management processes are simple - it's just when people get involved that it becomes complicated. In this session we were joined by Lucy Loh, a consultant focused on organisation diagnosis, design and development, business architecture, strategy development, and organisational change using systems approaches. She's also co-author on a book on a systemic approach to business strategy - Patterns of Strategy (we like this one!) Speaking to Senior Executives

Week 16 of #PMOwfh - four months of PMO chat, debate, a few laughs and lots of sharing during four months of the pandemic. There's one thing we've definitely learnt during this time - there's no limit to the subjects and themes we can choose to get into, the life of a PMO is such a varied and interesting one! This week we're looking at the theme of "talking to senior executives". It was one suggested by one of the crew so here we are. We were delighted to have Terry Doerscher join us from good ole Texas. Terry has loads of relatable experiences and knowledge, plus he's a really nice bloke. He's the author of a great book - Taming Change with Portfolio Management - an excellent choice if you're working at the senior level in portfolio PMO. The 10-in-10 session from Terry covered: Role of the PMO from an executive perspective Communicating project and portfolio performance Effective portfolio governance and project sponsorship

Improving Enterprise-Wide Portfolio Management

The world of the PMO is constantly changing – one of the more recent additions to its services is Enterprise-wide Portfolio Management. According to the most recent Gartner study (Gartner Magic Quadrant for PPM May 2019), by 2023, 80% of organisations will have an enterprise project, programme or product management office (PMO). It is only fair to say that Enterprise-wide Portfolio Management is still developing and in this comprehensive session we tackled the subject. In this session we were joined by Holger Heuss, Holger is also the instructor on the new PMO Learning course - Effective Enterprise-Wide Portfolio Management - which is aimed at those working in portfolio management and portfolio office. In this PMO Flashmob evening session we covered: Introduction to an Enterprise-wide Portfolio Management Framework, which included: Definition Indicators for maturity Relevant themes Snapshot of the Portfolio Management capability maturity across the audience Identification of hotspots for future sessions Here we share the resources and the analysis from the evening based on the questions that were asked about their own organisations.
