The Role of the PMO in Effective Project Assurance
Assurance is a broad topic. It’s not just about carrying out project reviews, although they are an essential element, particularly for PMOs. The term covers everything that provides – and hopefully improves – confidence of successful project delivery.
PMOs have a vital role to play in ensuring that effective project assurance exists and is acted upon. Yes, that includes carrying out project reviews, but also includes the design, implementation and oversight of project controls, and providing advice to other parts of an organisation on how to implement effective project assurance arrangements.
This session will explore what we mean by the term assurance, and how it should be organised. We will also look at how to plan, execute and follow up on effective project reviews.

PMO Key Skill - Reflecting
As Ken Bain states – “You don’t learn from experience, you learn from reflecting on experience.”
Reflecting is listed as a key skill for PMO professionals as we undertake the role of ‘critical friend’ – helping organisations reflect on decisions and delivery of projects, programmes and portfolios. But it is also important for PMO professionals (like all other professionals) to reflect on personal decisions and delivery of our role.
As stated in the PMO Competencey Framework, reflection allows us to .’ . . . gain an understanding of why something took place in order to make inferences or decisions, or to arrive at a solution or judgement.’. Reflection is fundamental for continuous improvement.
This session will look at the benefits of reflection and some tools that we can use.

Embedding Business Resilience in Programme Management
Business Resilience is increasingly recognized as an essential element of sustainable businesses, and in this session, we will show you how Business Resilience can be integrated with Programme Management to enable the delivery of resilience-focused initiatives.
The Resilience Professionals team has developed a roadmap and set of tools to help you with this implementation. Enabling the programme to succeed is critical and so we will consider the practical assessment of the level of challenge and energy to enable the delivery of initiatives to enhance the organisation’s resilience as well as making progress.
Attend the session to experience the application of one of those tools in a practical working scenario to improve business resilience in your organizational programmes.

Project Reporting: The Good, The Bad and the OMFG!
Project manager turned PMO manager, Jeremy Nicholls presents an entertaining and engaging session on what makes a properly useful project report; one that works for decision makers at a portfolio level as well as for the project managers charged with producing it.
We’ll look at the information that ought to be on a project report and how it should be presented. We’ll also look at some of the reporting traps we often find ourselves falling into by considering bad reporting practices and how to avoid them.
Finally we’ll look at the things you might want to take into account when rolling reports up to the portfolio level.
