Your PMOLearn! Day
Choosing the Right PMO Model
Is your PMO designed for your organisation – or inherited from somewhere or someone else?
Too often the PMO shape is copied, evolved by accident, or built around reporting rather than outcomes.
In this session, we’ll explore proven PMO models and help you choose the right fit for your delivery environment, maturity and stakeholder expectations.
Drawing on established thinking from P3O, PMI and House of PMO, you’ll design (or refresh) a PMO that is clear on purpose, focused on value and credible in how it supports delivery.
You’ll build a practical PMO Canvas defining purpose, services, success measures and boundaries – so your PMO is intentional, not accidental.
Standardisation and Delivery Methods
Delivery frameworks should create clarity and control. But when standards become heavy, vague or ignored, they slow teams down and give leaders a false sense of confidence.
This session shows you how to design a minimum-viable delivery framework – practical standards and lightweight artefacts that work across waterfall, hybrid and agile environments.
We’ll strengthen the “front door” to delivery too, shaping work through decision-ready business cases that surface value, risk, assumptions and affordability before it enters the portfolio.
You’ll define what “good enough” really means and focus on the PMO tools that stick – RAID, benefits, communications and lessons learned – without adding bureaucracy.
Governance and Sponsorship Throughout
When delivery feels risky, organisations add more governance. The result? More meetings. More paperwork. Less clarity on who decides what – and when.
In this session, we’ll explore governance that runs across the full lifecycle and enables better, faster decisions.
You’ll clarify decision rights, cadence and thresholds, define what “good” stage gates actually look like, and understand the evidence and confidence needed at each point.
We’ll also focus on sponsorship – role clarity, escalation paths and how to help sponsors act, not just attend.
You’ll create a practical lifecycle governance map covering gates, evidence, tolerances, decision-makers and fast-path rules for low-risk work.
Start With the End in Mind: Strategic Alignment, Prioritisation & Benefits
Portfolio decisions are where strategy either becomes real – or quietly unravels. Without a clear way to compare value, benefits, capacity and risk, organisations start too much and finish too little.
In this session, we’ll connect strategy to delivery through benefits-led thinking and practical prioritisation.
You’ll explore portfolio management approaches that work in the real world and how to compare initiatives based on value, affordability and risk.
We’ll also strengthen the link between business case and realised outcomes – clarifying ownership, measures, leading indicators and sensible tracking.
You’ll see how prioritisation and benefits realisation fit together in practice.
