Risk Assessment - Beyond the Heat Map

Risk assessment has continued to rely on heat maps and subjective matrices, despite several books and papers published in the last 20 years that demonstrate their shortcomings.

With the availability of cheap, high-performance computers, and intuitive modelling software, risk analysts and managers have the tools at their disposal to break away from 3-, 4-, or 5- point scales for probability and impact, and provide evidence-based assessments of the effect of risks on objectives.

This session will provide an overview of assessing and modelling schedule and cost impacts of event risks and estimating uncertainties; and will show how this is used to inform decisions and commitments. It will also discuss how risk severity is dependent on the objectives being considered.

Developing PMO Services to support the 10 P3 Governance (P3G) Principles

An opening presentation will indicate the importance of governance and provide a definition of P3G. The importance of P3G from a PMO perspective will be discussed. Delegates will then be introduced to the 10 Principles of P3G, drawn from the P3G guide, to ensure a fundamental understanding.  Where applicable, the principle will be illustrated with simple case studies. Each breakout group will then be allocated one or more principles and will be asked to identify potential services.  Breakout groups will present their findings.

PMO Best Practices for Effective Resource Capacity Planning

Effective resource capacity planning enables organizations to continuously adapt and align the capacity of teams, roles, and people to changing business priorities. It continuously accelerates portfolio value flow, reduces budget and delivery risks, and benefits talent retention.

This presentation will cover the Essential Elements of Effective Resource Capacity Planning including best practices and considerations. Best practices discussed in this session are within the reach of most project management offices regardless of size or delivery methodologies. Proficient process, governance, and automation reduce planning time and positively impact all aspects of portfolio delivery.

PMO Process Improvement Projects – A path to driving your PMO forward without project interruptions!

Many PMO managers struggle to advance their PMOs to higher levels of maturity. Join Bill Dow, PMP, in this presentation as he guides you on how to continuously improve your PMO across all aspects of your organization. Bill will share the tools and techniques he has used in his own PMOs to lead his team to maturity while still delivering on projects and programs.

One of the key components of maturing your PMO is understanding what to mature, so we’ll have a hands-on exercise to help you look internally at your biggest pain points are and map tactical process improvement projects to those pain points for execution.
