SUMMARY:Inside PMO - Resource Management Roundtable Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Inside PMO Report: 2025 Resource Management Focus \nEach year\, the House of PMO produces the Inside PMO Report\, which is shaped by discussions\, debates\, and real-life insights from PMO practitioners during our annual roundtable discussions. \nIn 2025\, the report will focus on resource management\, revisiting and building on themes explored in our 2016 report\, Beyond Timesheets: The Challenges and Realities of Resource Management. That report introduced the “Circle of Resource Management\,” a model that has since guided PMO practitioners in overcoming challenges in managing resources across projects\, programmes\, portfolios\, and capability development. \nThis year\, we will refresh and re-examine the Circle of Resource Management model at our upcoming roundtable\, looking at what’s working in PMOs and organisations today\, what hasn’t worked\, and the current challenges PMOs face—eight years after the original report. \n  \nThe Roundtable Discussion\nTo shape the 2025 report\, the House of PMO\, with support from the Houses of Parliament\, will host a roundtable discussion\, open to corporate and full members who can share their experiences in resource management. \nIf your PMO has made significant strides in areas like: \n\nStrategic resource management\nResource planning\nResource forecasting\nCapacity planning\nCapability development\n\nWe encourage you to register and attend the event\, sharing your own experiences as well as meeting other PMO practitioners with lessons to share. \nEvent Details \n\nDate: Monday\, 2nd December 2024\nTime: 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm\nLocation: Houses of Parliament\, Westminster\, London\n\n  \nSeats are limited\, so please register to secure your place and contribute to shaping the future of resource management in PMOs. We ask that only one representative per organisation attends\, and recommend that attendees have significant experience or recent involvement in resource management within their PMO. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Circle of Resource Management
DESCRIPTION:The Inside PMO Report – Beyond Timesheets: The Challenges and Realities of Resource Management – the report focuses on resource management in the PMO and outlines a structured approach to managing resources across portfolio\, project\, and individual levels\, emphasising capacity planning\, allocation\, and skills development. It highlights the PMO’s central role in balancing resource demands\, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities\, and addressing the challenges of managing skilled personnel effectively. \nThe “Circle of Resource Management” concept from the report identifies three interdependent segments that are essential for managing resources within a delivery organisation: \n\nThe Portfolio Segment: This part focuses on strategic resource management\, such as capacity planning\, to ensure the organisation has the right size and capacity to deliver projects and programmes. It involves tools for planning\, modelling\, and forecasting to align resource availability with portfolio demands.\nThe Project Segment: This segment handles resource allocation and utilisation at the project level. It deals with managing the demand for resources\, tracking their usage\, and ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.\nThe Resource Segment: This focuses on individual resources and their skills\, capabilities\, and training. Components include role descriptions\, assessments\, training development\, and recruitment efforts to ensure the right people are available and equipped to work on projects.\n\nEach of these segments includes specific tasks and activities and requires appropriate tools to function effectively. The model also acknowledges the influence of business context and culture in determining where to start with resource management\, emphasising that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. \nIn this session\, we revisit the report and gain a refresher on the circle of resource management which was first published in 2017. In December 2024 we will be revisiting the subject of resource management again- using the report as a basis to dig deeper and understand the next level of detail plus find out more about the ongoing challenges that PMOs have in this area. \nThis session aligns to the resource management competence plus capability development and capacity development. \n  \n  \n
