SUMMARY:PMO Networking Skills
DESCRIPTION:With the PMO Conference coming up in Edinburgh this November and the increase in the number of PMO Flashmob events we’re running\, it got us thinking about PMO people coming together and how much we learn from each other when we make connections. \nMany of us might not like the idea of networking\, even the mere mention of the word can bring some of us out in hives! But we want to do something about that\, perhaps change the perception of it\, at the very least bring together some different insights and hopefully provide a few hints and tips. \nIn this session\, we will focus on three aspects of networking – focusing more on the first two you see here: \n\nInternal Networking – How to build influence and trust within your organisation\, from delivery teams to senior leadership.\nFace-to-Face Networking – How to confidently connect at events\, workshops\, and in everyday workplace interactions.\nOnline Networking – How to make LinkedIn and other digital platforms work for your PMO career without the awkwardness.\n\n  \nTailored specifically for PMO people\, whether you’re new to networking or looking to sharpen your approach\, you’ll leave with ideas you can start using straight away (and hopefully we’ll see you at one of our events soon too!) \nThis session is free for House of PMO members – just £10 for non-members.

SUMMARY:Making Resource Management Work / Insight PMO Report
DESCRIPTION:Making Resource Management Work – The Latest Insight PMO Report\nResource management continues to be one of the trickiest areas for PMOs to get right. Whether it’s capacity planning\, getting the right people onto the right work\, or having the data to back up tough conversations with stakeholders – it often feels like going round in circles. \nIn this session we explore the refreshed Circle of Resource Management model – updated in 2025 following new insights from across sectors – and get practical about how the PMO can help make real progress\, even in complex environments. \nWhat We’ll Cover\nWe’ll take a look at the latest thinking behind the Circle of Resource Management from House of PMO and discuss findings from a brand new report into how organisations are tackling resource management in the real world. Together\, we’ll explore: \n\nThe portfolio\, project\, and resource sides of the resource management puzzle\nHow to use the model in your own organisation to prompt the right conversations\nWhat context\, capability and culture mean for your ability to make things stick\nHow the PMO can move from firefighting to genuinely enabling performance\nStories\, tips and lessons from other PMO professionals who’ve been there\n\n  \nThis session focuses on two of the competences in the PMO Competency Framework – Delivery Support: Resource Management and P3M Enabling: Capability Development and Capacity Management. \nSuitable for any level of PMO professional who is interested in improving resource management in their organisations. \n[Eileen presented a shorter version of this session at the PMO Conference in June 2025.] \n  \n

SUMMARY:PMO Tech in Action: Citizen Development at Strathclyde University
DESCRIPTION:Join Evelyn Trearty\, Business Change Manager at the University of Strathclyde\, as she shares how their PMO is getting real results using Microsoft tools – SharePoint\, Power Automate\, and Power BI – straight out of the box. No big development teams\, just smart use of what’s already there. A great session for anyone curious about citizen development and making tech work for your PMO. \nThis session is a brilliant example of how you don’t need a big budget or specialist dev teams to make real change happen. Evelyn will show how they’ve streamlined processes\, improved visibility\, and delivered measurable value – all through smart\, no-code/low-code solutions\, plus you’ll be able to see some of the details on the dashboards they’ve developed. \nWhether you’re already dabbling in citizen development (or not even sure what that is!) or just starting to explore how to make tech work harder for your PMO\, you’ll come away with loads of ideas and inspiration. It’s perfect for anyone looking to get more from what you’ve already got in your digital toolbox. \n

SUMMARY:Elevating PMO Outcomes & Value with What You Have / Edinburgh PMO Flashmob
DESCRIPTION:How can today’s PMOs deliver more value without more budget or tools? This session explores how to elevate PMO performance by making the most of the digital tools already at your fingertips – like Office 365\, Google Workspace\, and low-cost enhancements. \nThrough real-world case studies and live examples\, PMO consultants from AtkinsRéalis will demonstrate how PMOs are solving everyday challenges – like reporting\, collaboration\, and data management – using tools many already have access to. We’ll also explore what extra layers can be added to stretch capability further and take a practical look at how AI is starting to enhance PMO work in surprising (and achievable) ways. \nDesigned to be interactive\, the session includes speaker insights\, demonstrations\, and opportunities to engage with practical ideas you can take away and apply in your own PMO context – whether you’re in the early stages of digital maturity or further along the curve. \nWhether you’re a PMO professional\, student of project management\, or someone curious about the evolving role of technology in portfolio\, programme\, and project offices – this session will help you rethink what’s possible with the tools you already have. \nThis session will be held in-person at the University of Edinburgh. \nRegister your attendance to receive the joining instructions.

SUMMARY:The Crown & Anchor Principle – PMO Flashmob / London
DESCRIPTION:This month\, PMO Flashmob heads to the iconic Crown and Anchor pub near Euston – and we’re taking inspiration from the name. \nOur theme\, “The Crown & Anchor Principle”\, explores the duality of PMOs in organisations: \n\nThe Crown represents the things PMOs are celebrated for – strategic alignment\, delivery assurance\, consistency\, clarity\, control. The big wins. The gold stars (or should that be jewels??)\nThe Anchor represents the elements that often weigh PMOs down – resistance to change\, bureaucracy perceptions\, “process for the sake of process\,” or simply being misunderstood.\n\nIn true PMO Flashmob fashion\, we’ll be unpacking both sides of the story: \n\nWhat earns PMOs their seat at the table?\nAnd what quietly undermines their influence?\n\n\nFeaturing: The Crown & Anchor (PMO) Dice Game\nTo keep things lively\, we’ll be playing a reimagined version of the classic Crown & Anchor dice game – with a PMO twist. \nDid you know that “Crown and Anchor” is a traditional British naval game dating back to the 18th century. It was wildly popular with sailors in the Royal Navy – particularly because it’s simple\, fast\, and gloriously unfair – in other words\, perfect for our social meetup! \n\nWhat to Expect:\n\nA relaxed\, social evening with fellow PMO and project professionals.\nA chance to explore the realities of PMO life through shared stories\, conversations and insights.\nA light-hearted dice activity – using a set of custom PMO-themed outcomes to spark conversation about the crown and anchors of PMO life.\n\n  \nCome Along:\nPMO Flashmobs are open to anyone who enjoys getting together with other PMO people – people from all types of industries and levels of experience attend and you will be made to feel welcomed! \nBook your place today!

SUMMARY:PMI PMO unCON
DESCRIPTION:PMI’s unconference focused on PMOs takes place in the US in October. \nAn unconference is a participant-driven event that turns the traditional conference model on its head. Rather than having a rigid agenda set by organisers in advance\, the content and flow of the event are shaped by attendees themselves\, often on the day. \nHere’s what they say about PMO unCON: \nPMO unCON is more than an event — it’s an immersive experience.Every session is intentionally designed to place participants at the center\, empowering you to lead conversations\, share real challenges\, and grow together.\nIt’s about turning insight into action through unconventional formats that ignite interaction\, spark bold thinking\, and build meaningful connections.\nStep into a space where your voice matters\, your ideas take shape\, and your experience becomes part of something greater.\nPMO unCON isn’t just where you attend — it’s where you belong \nFind out more via the website

SUMMARY:Making Change Stick: How PMO Helps Drive Real Results
DESCRIPTION:We’re back in Manchester for a PMO Flashmob and this time we are joined by Louise Barker\, Head of Strategic Delivery and Improvement at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. \nTransformation isn’t just about delivering projects – it’s about doing things better\, together\, for the long run. In this session\, Louise shares how their PMO has brought together project delivery\, change management and quality improvement into one clear approach that actually works. \nYou’ll hear how they: \n\nAlign big change programmes with what really matters to the organisation\nKeep everything on track with a clear governance structure that doesn’t get in the way\nShow real improvements in patient care and service delivery\nSupport people through the change – not just processes – with strong leadership and capability building\n\nWe’ll also explore some of the tools and forums that help make it all happen – like the Change Initiation Forum and benefits sequencing – plus what they’ve learned along the way that others in the NHS (or any complex organisation) can take and use. \nMany thanks to Gravitas Recruitment for hosting the session – join us for learning\, drinks and nibbles!

This intermediate session dives deeper into the world of Generative AI\, showing you how to move beyond “basic prompting” into advanced reasoning\, research\, and collaboration techniques. \nWhat You’ll Learn \n\nInside the AI Mind: How reasoning models “think\,” plan\, and refine – plus how to design prompts that unlock deeper\, more structured responses.\nDoing Serious Research with AI: How to get detailed\, credible outputs from large datasets – while knowing when and how to double-check sources.\nPrompting Like a Pro: Zero-shot\, few-shot\, and many-shot prompting\, step-by-step reasoning\, contrastive examples\, and structured outputs.\nNext-Level Tools & Features: Experiment with custom styles\, shared workspaces\, Canvas Mode for content creation\, and NotebookLM for integrating sources into mind maps or audio/visual summaries.\nFrameworks that Stick: Revisit C.R.E.A.T.E. and the 555 Rule – this time with more sophisticated applications to sharpen your 5 Cs of Prompting Skills.\n\nBy the end\, you’ll be comfortable using AI not just as a clever assistant\, but as a serious partner in thinking\, planning and delivery. \nBecause here’s the truth:AI won’t replace humans — but humans using AI will outpace those who don’t. \n  \nMeet the expert\nWe’ve teamed up with Mike Weston-Burt (ex-KPMG) to deliver these sessions. With 40 years in professional services\, Mike has trained over 50\,000 people across 5 continents and now runs his own AI training consultancy. He is at the forefront of helping organisations large and small make the most of the exciting opportunities GenAI offers. You’ll also be able to catch Mike at PMO Learn! in Edinburgh this November. \nRegister Today\n\nDate: Monday 20th October\nDuration: 60 minutes and additional 30 minutes live demos and Q&A\nFree to attend for members / £5 to charity for non-members [see more]\n\nWant to sign up for the first – introductory level – session which takes place on the 15th October? SUMMARY:Mega Projects Conference (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Breaking the Iron Law: Megaprojects Conference \nPMOs are increasingly involved in supporting complex\, large-scale programmes and portfolios – from infrastructure and transformation initiatives to capital-intensive projects. This conference explores how project professionals can reframe what’s possible in capital-intensive\, complex\, and megaproject delivery and help break the so-called “Iron Law of Megaprojects” – projects that run over budget\, over time\, and under deliver\, again and again. \nHosted by P3GQA\, this multi-day event brings together global experts and practitioners to share frameworks\, insights\, and real-world cases on how to deliver better outcomes in megaprojects. \nKeynote Day – 8 December\nThe centrepiece of the conference\, Keynote Day brings together some of the most influential figures shaping the future of megaproject delivery. \n\nProfessor Bent Flyvbjerg – the originator of the “Iron Law of Megaprojects” and the most cited scholar in the field. He will share the latest research and practical heuristics for breaking the cycle of failure in capital-intensive projects.\nBecky Wood – newly appointed CEO of the UK’s National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA). She brings deep experience from major government projects and will speak about the future of national infrastructure delivery and the role of collaboration.\nAntonio Nieto-Rodríguez – leading voice on the Project Economy\, HBR author\, and former PMI Chair. He will share insights on how organisations can thrive in the transformation age by prioritising and leading strategic initiatives.\n\n\nAlongside these headline speakers\, the day features contributions from senior figures across industry and academia\, including PMI Fellows\, authors\, and advisers who have defined many of the standards and practices used in project management today. \nFor PMOs\, this is an opportunity to: \n\nUnderstand the systemic challenges that lead to overruns and under-delivery in megaprojects.\nLearn from both research and real-world examples of governance\, sponsorship\, and benefits management done well.\nHear from thought leaders who are shaping the future of project delivery at national and global scale.\n\n  \nHouse of PMO’s Eileen Roden provides the closing keynote session of the day with ePMO Services for Capital Portfolios. See the full agenda. \nThe House of PMO community can purchase their seat at the conference: \nBook Your Place\n

SUMMARY:Why Behaviours Matter More Than Processes in PMOs
DESCRIPTION:Scott Paget has spent almost 30 years working in projects across both corporate and third sector organisations. Over that time\, he’s seen that project success depends less on following the perfect process and more on how people behave when things get difficult. \nIn this session\, Scott will explore three key behaviours from the PMO Competency Framework: \n\nBuilding trust and credibility by being open and honest.\nStaying resilient and positive when challenges arise.\nBringing passion and compassion to the work\, while keeping a growth mindset.\n\nThese behaviours are often called ‘soft skills’\, but in practice they’re what keep projects moving and teams working well together. \nBy the end of the session\, attendees will leave with practical advice and useful strategies they can apply straight away to improve project delivery\, while also protecting the well-being of the people doing the work. \n

SUMMARY:Ten Emerging Trends in PMO 2026
DESCRIPTION:What should PMO teams pay attention to in 2026 – and what’s just noise? \nIt’s our annual event when we take a look at the PMO Trends for 2026 – designed to spark thinking\, challenge assumptions\, and help PMO professionals prepare for the year ahead. \nBased on what 2025 has been signalling\, 2026 is likely to be a year where PMOs double down on proving value (not just activity)\, with stronger links between portfolio choices and real business outcomes\, and a bigger push for faster decision-making without losing grip on risk. Expect more pressure to simplify governance\, cut the “reporting for reporting’s sake” stuff\, and use data (and increasingly AI-supported analysis) to spot trends\, exceptions\, and delivery pinch-points earlier. At the same time\, the people side won’t let up: capability building\, influencing skills\, and change leadership will matter just as much as tooling\, because PMOs will keep getting asked to act like a business function – not a back-office service. \nIn this session\, we’ll share the top ten from the House of PMO and provide some of the practical ways we can deal with them.

SUMMARY:PMO Managers Lunch / Exploring Specialist Roles in the PMO
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the House of PMO hosts a PMO Managers Lunch – an invite-only roundtable discussion over good food\, where we explore what’s really going on in PMOs today. It’s candid\, honest\, and collaborative. \nThis year\, we’re coming to Glasgow. And the theme?\nSpecialist Roles in the PMO – because we know the four core roles (Administrator\, Analyst\, Manager\, Director) don’t tell the whole story. \nFrom Benefits Leads to Planning Specialists\, Agile PMO roles to Risk SMEs – we want to explore how these specialist roles are evolving\, where the demand is coming from\, and what that means for PMO structures\, services\, and careers. \nWhy This Theme?\nWe’re building on the PMO Competency Framework\, which currently outlines the four core PMO roles. But in practice\, we’re seeing far more nuanced and specialist roles – sometimes as permanent functions\, sometimes as secondments\, sometimes emerging out of necessity. \nThis roundtable will help shape future updates to the framework – and will feed directly into the next Inside PMO Report. \nWho Should Apply?\nWe’re opening six spaces for PMO Managers to apply. You’ll be a good fit if: \n\nYou manage or lead a PMO (any sector\, any size)\nYou’ve introduced\, managed\, or worked alongside specialist roles in your PMO\nYou’ve got stories\, experience\, or views worth sharing – and you’re happy to contribute\nYou’re curious about how others are approaching specialist roles\n\nThis is not a spectator event. If you attend\, it’s because you have something to say. \nHow It Works\n\n12 places around the table – 6 invited\, 6 through application\nFacilitated discussion – led by the House of PMO team\nOutputs published in the 2026 Inside PMO Report\nLunch included – no cost to attend\, but your insight is the ticket in\, plus the lunch will be delicious!\n\n  \nApply to Join\nComplete the form when you RSVP to tell us a bit about your PMO\, your experience with specialist roles\, and what you’d bring to the conversation. We’re not looking for perfect answers – just thoughtful ones. \nPrevious Inside PMO Reports\nCurious about what comes out of these lunches? Take a look at our past reports: \n📘 The Circle of Resource Management\n📘 Portfolio Management in Practice\n📘 Agile and the PMO \nYou can find all of them here [Inside PMO Reports] \n

SUMMARY:Beyond the Single Source of the Truth: How PMOs Validate\, Challenge and Make Data Useful
DESCRIPTION:For years\, PMOs have chased “The Single Source of the Truth” – a mythical state where every report aligns\, every dashboard reconciles\, and every stakeholder agrees. But what if this pursuit of certainty is actually holding us back? \nIn this thought-provoking session\, Michael Campbell explores what “truth” really means in a modern PMO. He challenges the idea that the goal is perfect data hygiene or one definitive version of the facts. Instead\, he argues that the PMO’s real value lies in sense-making – validating\, triangulating and continuously interpreting data to enable better business decisions. \nDrawing on lessons from PMO Flashmob’s Inside PMO report\, Michael will show how the future-ready PMO isn’t just data-literate – it’s curious. It constantly tests assumptions\, questions patterns\, and balances evidence with experience. The session will unpack how to build a PMO culture that goes beyond reporting to create genuine insight – helping organisations move from chasing truth to creating clarity and confidence. \nExpect lively discussion\, practical techniques\, and a few myths lovingly dismantled
