SUMMARY:Ask Better Questions: The PMO Skill That Changes Decisions
DESCRIPTION:PMO professionals are often expected to provide answers\, but some of the greatest value comes from knowing which questions to ask. \nAsking powerful questions is a core skill within the PMO Competency Framework: the ability to ask searching and provocative questions that make people think more deeply and create greater clarity. It is also fundamental to being an effective critical friend – challenging assumptions\, testing thinking\, improving understanding and helping people make better decisions. \nIn this 60-minute webinar\, we’ll explore how powerful questioning can be used in everyday PMO work\, from checking the quality of information and understanding what the data is really telling us\, through to challenging priorities\, assumptions\, investment decisions and strategic choices. \nWe’ll look at what makes a question genuinely powerful\, how to challenge without becoming confrontational\, and why good questioning has to be combined with curiosity\, judgement and active listening. We’ll also explore how the skill develops across all four PMO roles – PMO Administrator\, PMO Analyst\, PMO Manager and PMO Director – with practical examples of the questions each might ask. \nBecause sometimes the most valuable contribution a PMO can make isn’t having the answer – it’s having the question. \nThis session is also a perfect event for anyone attending this year’s PMO Insight Conference too. \n

SUMMARY:AI Starts with Data: What Digital Maturity Really Means for the PMO
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is talking about what AI could do for project and portfolio management\, for example\, predict problems\, interpret performance\, automate work and help leaders make better decisions. \nBut there’s a problem! \nFor many PMOs\, project information is still spread across spreadsheets\, documents\, plans\, reports and disconnected systems. Before AI can transform the PMO\, there’s a more fundamental question to answer: is the information underneath it ready? It’s certainly what we’re hearing time and time again in the PMO community. \nOn 6th November\, House of PMO will be joined by Gero Renker\, Director and Co-founder of Power Framework\, for a different kind of session. \nRather than a traditional presentation\, Gero will use a series of ideas around ‘AI Starts with Data’\, as conversation starters. House of PMO will challenge\, question and explore them from the perspective of the PMO community – and you can jump in too! We’ve enlisted Gero because for many of us\, we’re using the Microsoft platform in our organisations\, so you can expect that Microsoft will figure quite highly! \nWe’ll look at where PMOs are today\, what digital maturity actually means in practice\, why structured data matters\, where automation fits before AI\, and what PMOs can realistically start doing now. \nExpect conversation rather than a product demo – with plenty of practical questions along the way. \nShould be fun – as well as uncovering some useful practical things to takeaway\, RSVP to join us. \n

SUMMARY:Why Every Project Professional Should Spend Time in a PMO
DESCRIPTION:The House of PMO at the British Computer Society (BCS)\nThis in-person and virtual session explores why spending time in a PMO can broaden your perspective\, strengthen your delivery judgement and open up new career options across project\, programme\, portfolio\, transformation and leadership roles. \nFor many project and programme professionals\, the PMO is seen as a function they work with rather than somewhere they might choose to work. This session explores why spending part of a career in a PMO can be a valuable move – not necessarily a permanent one. \nDrawing on the Inside PMO Report 2026: Specialist Roles in the PMO\, the talk will examine the range of generalist and specialist roles available\, from coordination and delivery support through to data and insight\, governance and assurance\, portfolio management\, benefits and digital capability. It will also consider the different routes into and out of PMO\, and how time spent there can build a broader understanding of organisational delivery\, strengthen commercial and strategic awareness\, and provide greater exposure to senior decision-making. \nAttendees will leave with a clearer view of PMO experience as a practical way to broaden capability\, deepen expertise and open up future career options across projects\, programmes\, portfolios\, transformation and leadership. \nWhat You Need to Know\nThe event takes place at: BCS\, The Chartered Institute for IT\, 25 Copthall Ave\, London EC2R 7BP \nYou can also attend the event virtually. \nAgenda: \n\n06:30 PM – Intro & announcements \n\n\n06:40 PM – Talk commences \n\n\n08:00 PM – Talk concludes with optional post-event networking \nRegistration: Please register with BCS to attend this event \n\n
