The second keynote speaker of the PMO Conference 2018 was Lori Silverman with her session – Giving Data a Voice: Transforming Data into Actionable Insight Through Story. In this talk, Lori explains how to give data a voice and why it needs more than just numbers to get the message across.

We spoke to Lori in the video below about her speech and how giving data a voice is important to PMO’s.

As the owner of Partners for Progress®, Lori helps firms strategize about their future and navigate through large, messy, complex changes. Since 1991, she’s worked with organizations across more than 20 industries, including Target, McDonalds, Chevron, Bechtel, Valmet, IAIDQ, Phillips North America, and the U.S. Air Force Reserves. As a keynote speaker, Lori has inspired thousands of participants to take action. She’s an adjunct professor in the Master’s Program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California and has also authored two books in the quality management field.

Lori stresses that “It’s not enough to wrap graphics and fancy visualizations around data and deliver them in a slick package. All data has a voice. How do you get it to speak? First, you need to extrapolate meaning from it, and then you must transform this meaning — these insights — into compelling stories that moves people to shift their thinking or change their behavior.”
